watercolours
Earlier this year, feeling a longing to
return to the freedom of watercolour, a friend introduced me to some fabulous
Russian paints and I have not looked back! I haven’t the time to! I just
can’t stop painting, painting, painting! An initial “stab” at a
favourite local scene, “Pakefield Beach” was so successful and
well-received, that I was immediately lifted from depression and began a
series of flower paintings with nothing but a brush full of watercolour in
hand. Partly influenced by Van Gogh’s flower studies against complementary
backgrounds, partly also by my love of Art Nouveau and its growth forms,
partly again by the decorative paintings of Klimt and Hundertwasser and my
dream about including framing in the picture itself, my work has now “taken
off” and my very own painting style, which I always knew was held within
me, has blossomed forth! I call these works my “icons”. How appropriate,
then that I should be using Russian Watercolours!
Watercolours (sometimes
with gold and silver gouache)
These paintings sell as fast as I can paint them, so I have begun
commissioning a “limited edition” series of Giclee prints from a firm
called, “Salt of the Earth”.
They will also make prints of my large
oil paintings, so these become more accessible price-wise. “Salt of the
Earth” liked my new work so much, they are featuring me on their website in
the next quarter of the year. (from October 2010)
